"Homer the hero"
Brendan is 17 years old and lives with his mum and brother. He was diagnosed with Duchene muscular dystrophy and uses an electric wheelchair to get around. He doesn't allow his condition to prevent him from having fun. Brendan enjoys attending teenage weekends at Horizon House were he chills out with his friends. He particularly enjoys playing wheelchair football, singing and The Simpsons.
Brendan chose Homer Simpson as his hero because he is funny. He has an ability to laugh at himself and make others laugh at him too! Brendan says he enjoys Homer's foolish antics and the scrapes he regularly finds himself in.
The hapless father's comedy comes through in not only his actions but also in the many memorable catchphrases and words of wisdom, such as "Bart, with $10,000, we'd be millionaires!" and "Ah, TV respects me. It laughs with me not at me!".
Brendan feels it is the combination Homer's personality, words and deeds as an endless source of humour and makes Homer an ideal choice for any hero.
