Honey

Age 8

Helen House Children's Hospice

"My sister my hero"

Honey is eight years old and lives with her mum, stepdad, brother Sam and sister Hannah.

Honey is very active and enjoys many things like, swimming, horse riding, music, singing, dancing and art and crafts.

Honey and her family came to Helen House Children's Hospice in Oxford because Hannah, Honey's older sister, has a malignant brain tumour called metastic medulloblastoma. Hannah uses a wheelchair to get around and her speech is slow but if you are patient she can be understood.

Honey likes coming to Helen House because she enjoys spending some special time with Hannah, as well as having time by herself. Honey has made many new friendships while coming to Helen House. There are many things that Honey likes about Helen House including the food, lots of toys, the garden, making things in the art room and splashing about in the spa having water fights!

Honey looks up to Hannah, which is why she has named her picture ‘My sister my hero'. Honey said: "Hannah is very brave which makes me brave; she is funny which makes me funny". Honey has learnt a lot from Hannah over the years; Hannah used to help Honey with her homework, is honest and to the point but funny, she also loves art and horse riding.

Honey made her picture by painting Hannah and giving her a big smile as she always smiles. Honey chose the photos and cut them into heart shapes because they had a saying "always in my heart".

Hannah sadly passed away in December 2009 shortly after Honey created her artwork.
