"My grandad"

Hannah is eight years old and was diagnosed in September 2007 with a Ewing's sarcoma in her left hip. Hannah has received chemotherapy and radiotherapy and has a Hickman line in place for her treatment. Hannah has been receiving care from Chestnut Tree House since March 2009.

The title of Hannah's piece is ‘My grandad'.

Hannah said: "I used to go on picnics with grandad and my family. These were always fun times. He always made great ham sandwiches which we'd have with our picnic. Once we had eaten we would do fun games together and he would always run around with me.

"Grandad always made me feel special, and I particularly remember his warm, friendly, funny face. I loved to visit him and grandma as he used to have a grey and white cat called Rio and a big red fish. I used to stroke the fish and help to feed him sometimes. "Grandad had a red car, which I liked as I like red too. He made me feel brave and used to read ‘Kipper' books to me which I really enjoyed. He gave me red roses from time to time and helped me overcome being afraid of the dark - he told me there were no ghosts and gave me a torch.

"I miss him because he died a few years ago but have these good memories of how happy he made me, which is why he is my hero!"

Sadly, not long after Hannah completed her artwork she passed away.

This artwork has been created on two canvases. Each canvas is 240mm wide, by 180mm high by 35mm deep.
